  Do I need a Business Coach or a Business Consultant? Or both? What exactly is the difference between the two?

Business consultants are often hired for specific advice and expertise, such as in the area of human resources management or marketing. The focus is on providing assistance, answers, and solving problems as requested by a business owner, mostly externally. Coaching facilitates the discovery of answers that are uniquely your own. A business coach provides guidance, expertise, recommendations, and skill building techniques when appropriate and useful, but a coach will not tell you what to do .Your coach will supply you with ideas, resources, models and systems that are proven to work, but won’t hand you a completed action plan nor assert there is only one right way to accomplish your goals. Depending on the client’s needs, the proper methodology (consulting, coaching, or both) will be recommended.

How long is the Coaching Process?

The process is not a magic wand. Certainly, you have been to a seminar and left recharged and planning wonderful changes. Yet you probably forgot everything from the seminar within ninety days or less. Studies show that the average business book is never read beyond the first chapter! And even if you manage to read books in their entirety, like most you struggle to implement the ideas and concepts presented. Don't feel bad. You're not alone.

Creating lasting change is a process of acquiring skills and developing positive habits. Coaching is a process to help you learn new strategies and behaviors, and to develop positive congruent habits that maximize your life and drive your business forward. The process is important in creating real change that lasts.

That's why Compass Advisors Group recommends a coaching relationship of a minimum of 6 months, with the ideal being 12 to 18 months or more.
